Why PCH? Why were you interested in joining the PCH Board and working for affordable housing in Princeton?

I was born and raised in Princeton and have spent my entire life in this community. Growing up here has allowed me to see firsthand how important safe, affordable housing is for Princeton and the surrounding area. I also know that many people simply aren’t aware of the resources available to them. I want to bridge that gap by connecting people with the support they need.

I became familiar with Princeton Community Housing when my former husband became a resident at Elm Court. I helped him move into the community and spent time at both Elm Court and Harriet Bryan House nearly every day, bringing meals and offering support. Through those experiences, I saw firsthand the impact that affordable housing, along with investing in social connections and community, has on one’s health.

What is your professional background?

I began my teaching career in Trenton in 1965 before returning to Princeton in 1969, where I spent more than four decades as a teacher at Community Park Elementary School. Throughout my career, I also tutored students after school and helped many young people navigate the college application process.

Although I officially retired from teaching in 2010, retirement has not slowed me down. I continue to support the Princeton Public Schools, serving in administrative roles wherever I’m needed. Whether helping students, supporting staff, or lending a hand in the community, I’ve always believed in saying “yes” when someone needs help.

What other volunteer activities do you participate in?

I have been a member of Mount Pisgah AME Church since my children were young. The church became an important part of our family’s life, and today, I remain actively involved in supporting the congregation.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love to travel and learn about different cultures. Visiting new places and seeing how people around the world live gives me a broader perspective. I’ve been to every continent except Antarctica.
