Princeton Community Housing was formed more than five decades ago by several community residents, including founding Trustee John Borden, who saw the critical need for affordable housing in Princeton.  As a result, thousands of Princeton residents have benefited from living in PCH’s homes and contributed to the larger community. This is a credit to PCH’s founders’ vision and commitment, and the efforts of many others over the years.

Yet the needs today remain great, and the shortage of affordable housing is a persistent challenge.  In the spirit of John Borden and other PCH volunteers and supporters, you can help advance the PCH mission significantly with a gift today that will benefit generations to come.

Please consider becoming a member of the John C. Borden, Jr. Circle by:

  • including a gift in your will to benefit PCH

  • naming PCH as a beneficiary on a bank or retirement account, or

  • including PCH in other types of estate planning

JOIN THE JOHN C. BORDEN, JR. CIRCLE

John C. Borden, Jr. (1929-2014) was a founding Trustee of Princeton Community Housing.  A descendent of the prominent Borden textile family, he and his wife Gloria moved to Princeton in the late 1950s to raise a family and were members of Princeton Friends Meeting.  He founded Gallery 100 in 1960, a Nassau Street shop specializing in graphic design, framing, photography and art supplies.  His true passion, however, lay in the world of peace, social justice, and care for the underserved.  Following the sale of his business in the late 1960s, he dedicated himself to non-profit service both locally and abroad.

As a professional fundraiser and consultant for the American Friends Service Committee, John traveled extensively to secure grants for famine relief, development, and peace programs in developing nations.  He also served for almost five decades as the executive director and trustee of the Mary Owen Borden Foundation, providing grants and support to countless nonprofits in Mercer and Monmouth Counties.

As a Trustee for PCH, he was committed to expanding fundraising efforts and advocated tirelessly to grow resources from the wider community in support of PCH’s mission and vision.  He demonstrated this commitment by naming PCH as a beneficiary in his estate, bequeathing a significant gift to the organization upon his death in 2014.  He encouraged others to do the same.

The John C. Borden, Jr. Circle recognizes individuals whose gifts of future support are helping to ensure PCH’s continued commitment to a balance of housing opportunities in Princeton.
